Our Footsteps in Music for Toddlers is the first group of classes in the Pathway to Music Literacy through Musikgarten. We offer new themes each semester throughout the “walking years” until children are ready to move up to Adventures in Music for Preschoolers (usually around age 3). The skills developed and practiced through playful activities in the Toddler & Preschool years are applied to a specific instrument and built upon as students begin to read music in later classes.
This semester, Toddlers and their caregiver(s) will go “On A Trip” as they grow together through music, movement, listening, and playing age-appropriate instruments. Everyone in the family will love the variety of music! Classics like “The Bear Went Over the Mountain,” plus new favorites like “Don Gato” and “Five Freckled Frogs” will excite the imagination and keep your feet tapping!
The family kit includes a colorful book with music and poems as well as an accompanying CD or digital download of beautiful music you will learn in the class.

Our Adventures in Music for Preschoolers is the second group of classes in the Pathway to Music Literacy through Musikgarten. The themes in this class follow the changing of the seasons throughout the year and prepare Preschoolers to move into the Music Pathways at the Piano or another group instrument class. The skills developed and practiced through playful activities in the Toddler & Preschool years are applied to a specific instrument and built upon as students begin to read music in later classes. In this class, preschoolers will become familiar with many songs as well as the “voices” of familiar animals that visit throughout the seasons. They will also expand their musical and physical abilities through singing, playing age-appropriate instruments, movement, poetry, and active listening. All activities purposefully and carefully address the development of the whole child. The musical examples are beautifully arranged for the enjoyment of children and parents alike. The family kit includes a colorful book with music and poems as well as an accompanying CD or digital download of beautiful music you will learn in the class.

Students will learn the basics of music through singing, listening, music games, drumming, ukulele, and piano. This class is perfect for home-schooled students wanting to add music to their curriculum.

Our Music Pathways at the Piano is where students begin to build their musical language and skills while also setting a good foundation on the piano. Students will learn through movement, listening, playing various instruments, and of course, playing the piano. This class is best suited for children ages 5-6 who want to build a good musical foundation and learn to play the piano. Students who have participated in our Footsteps and Adventures classes for toddlers and preschoolers will have a head start on the songs and patterns used in this class, however no musical experience is necessary to join! This group class is held for the whole school year in order to help establish the habits necessary for success on a musical instrument.

Students will learn the basics of music theory and aural skills through piano plus whatever instrument they can play. Students should bring their main instrument (if not piano) but will also learn some keyboarding skills. This class is perfect for home-schooled students wanting to add music to their curriculum.

Come learn the ukulele with our Hawaiian instructor, Jacob Kenyon! The group setting for 6-10-year-olds is a delightful way to learn this instrument. Students will learn to play various styles of music both individually and as a group. Students will have opportunities to perform as a group around Sandpoint in an informal setting to build their confidence and performing skills, and to have fun! Students must provide their own instrument, please contact us for guidance on purchasing a quality ukulele.

Beginning Guitar in a group setting for ages 10-14 year-olds is a great way to start studying the guitar before moving into private lessons. Students will learn the basics: tuning, chords, cool but simple strumming and finger-picking techniques, and reading tab to play easy riffs. Students will learn to play various styles of music both individually and as a group. Students must provide their own guitar, please contact us for guidance on purchasing a quality guitar.
